How Educational NGOs are Changing Language Norms

in Wartime Ukraine

Linguistic purism in Ukraine, the idea that Ukrainian should be spoken perfectly, has been criticized both as a legacy of the Soviet Union and described as an ideology inherent in Ukrainian society. Interviews with educational NGOs’ reveal teaching philosophies that stand in start contrast to Soviet crafted language pedagogy and linguistic programs and positively affects the teaching of Ukrainian to Russian-speakers.
