The Working Class and the Language Question:

Kryvyi Rih since 2022

Despite ambivalence towards Maidan, Russian-speaking working-class women volunteered to support Ukrainian fighters and civilians affected by the war. Based on fieldwork in Kryvyi Rih, a major mining and metallurgy center in the Dnipro region, the presentation explores the impact of linguistic policies on Ukraine’s working class and growing unity of the Ukrainian society.

Daria Saburova is a PhD student in Philosophy at the Université Paris Nanterre. Her presentation is based on her book Travailleuses de la résistance: Les classes populaires ukrainiennes face à la guerre.
