The Fluidity of National Identity among Russian-Speaking Ukrainians after the Full-Scale Invasion

There is growing evidence suggests that Russian speakers in Ukraine are abandoning the use of the Russian language following the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine February 24, 2022. This language

shift may be emblematic of deeper identity and cultural shifts. The paper relies on quantitative and qualitative analysis to uncover the core elements of language use and national identity among Russianspeakers.

 

Nataliia Kasianenko, born in Ukraine, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Fresno.
