Decolonization of the Demography of Holodomor

Recent work has challenged many years of research on the demographic aspects of the Holodomor which have been consistent with the Soviet, and now Russian, version of the 1932-1934 famine in the Soviet Union. This paper addresses the decolonization of the demography of the Holodomor and demonstrates how the Soviet/Russian version clouds the Holodomor as being one of the deadliest famines in the 20th century.

Oleh Wolowyna has been coordinating research on the demography of the 1932-1934 Famine in Ukraine and Russia with a team of demographers at the Ptukha Institute of Demography and Social Studies in Kyiv.
