How Ukraine Ruled Russia:
Regionalism and Party Politics After Stalin

The presentation investigates the rise of Ukrainian political officers, arguing that Stalin’s purges inadvertently empowered a cohort, particularly from Dnipropetrovsk, who later became pivotal in Soviet politics. It shows how Ukraine came to figure centrally in the Soviet Union’s operations, while also

being called to reflect on epistemological erasures that have led to us collectively knowing so little about this period.
