The Inception of Russia’s War on Ukraine (Oxford, 2024)

The book provides a novel interpretation of the causes of the war in Donbas by challenging two conventional explanations and identifying the exact role of both Russian agents and local actors in its outbreak and escalation. It draws on 140 original interviews with local actors, dozens of town newspapers, on-the-ground footage, municipal documents and participant memoirs.
