Duty, Gender, and Choice:
Unpacking Ambiguous Societal Perceptions

of Ukrainian Men Who Avoid Military Mobilization

In examining the efforts of the Ukrainian government to secure defence, the

implementation of both a travel ban and a mobilization bill reproduces gendered perceptions of male war roles. The presentation explores evolving gender dynamics and social cohesion through the societal perceptions of draft evaders. It provides insights into how traditional masculinity is both challenged and reinforced by the ongoing war.
