The Complex Tale of Ukrainian Studies in Germany
While 2022 marked a change, Ukrainian Studies have never been at the heart of academic life in Germany and most European countries. Based on empirical research on Ukrainian Studies at German universities, this article demonstrates how academic programs have reflected issues related to
Ukraine, particularly since 2014 and 2022, and how discourses and beliefs shaped the field. The new KIU Competence Network aims to change that.
Susann Worschech is a senior researcher at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany and the scientific coordinator of the KIU Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies Frankfurt (Oder) – Berlin.
