How Can One Remember Clearly?

On the Possibility of Decolonization of Memory in Ukraine

Despite widespread usage of the word “decolonization”, especially in relation to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, there is a limited shared understanding of what it means in practice. This paper will seek to understand what decolonization in the field of memory means and how decolonial theories can be applied to, and be informed by, the Ukrainian context.

Yuliya Yurchuk, born in Ukraine, is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History of Ideas at Södertörn University (Sweden).
